Frequently
Asked Questions

General

  • Absolutely!

All of our team members offer a free 15-minute virtual consultation so you can meet and decide if you'd be a good fit together. During your consultation, you’ll be able to discuss your needs, identify goals, and go over any questions or concerns you might have.

  • While both are great options, the best choice for you will depend on your needs, preferences, and comfort with technology.

Virtual sessions offer flexibility and convenience, allowing you to connect from anywhere in Ontario, ideal for busy schedules or remote locations. In-person sessions provide a traditional face-to-face experience, fostering stronger nonverbal communication and a dedicated therapeutic space.

Still unsure about your choice? We also offer hybrid options, allowing you to blend virtual and in-person sessions depending on your needs.

  • Full payment is due at the end of each scheduled appointment in the form of cash (exact change), eTransfer, or credit card. A credit card is required on file, however, it does not need to be your chosen form of payment. Emailed receipts will be issued for each paid session and will include your clinician’s name and professional registration number for you to submit your own insurance claims. Root Bloom Thrive does not do direct billing.

Please give 48 hours notice for all appointment changes and cancellations. With less than 48 hours notice, you will be responsible for the full session fee.

  • Balancing healthcare costs with other necessities can be difficult. Access to mental health support shouldn't be limited by financial barriers. Some of our clinicians may offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments to support clients facing financial hardship, students, or those from marginalized communities.

Availability of sliding scale sessions varies by clinician and cannot be guaranteed. If you are interested, please ask your clinician directly about whether they currently have openings.

  • Our typical response time is 1-2 business days. If you contacted your clinician via email and haven’t heard back within that time frame, please check your junk or spam folder. Alternatively, email hello@rootbloomthrive.com if you’re having trouble reaching your provider.

Please note that we do not provide crisis services. If you are in a crisis, contact 911 or visit your local emergency department immediately. If you are contemplating self-harm or suicide, you can also call or text Canada’s suicide crisis line at 988.

Psychotherapy

  • Your first therapy appointment is a chance to start building a comfortable and trusting relationship. We'll likely discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your background, and what you hope to achieve.

It's perfectly normal to feel nervous at the start; we'll follow your lead and meet you at your comfort level. Feel free to bring your favorite drink, a fidget or sensory tool, and wear your comfiest clothes!

  • In subsequent therapy sessions, you can expect a continuation of the safe and supportive environment established in your first meeting. We'll delve deeper into the challenges you've identified, working collaboratively to explore patterns, develop coping strategies, and foster personal growth.

Each session will remain tailored to your unique needs and pace, allowing for flexibility and adjustment as we progress.

You’re welcome to continue bringing any comfort items with you and anything else that might be helpful such as a small journal if you like to make notes.

  • We'll tailor the frequency of our sessions to your specific needs, preferences, and progress. Most clients find weekly or bi-weekly sessions beneficial initially. This helps us establish a solid foundation, address your immediate concerns, and allows consistent support when you might need it most. Think about it like gaining momentum! As you develop coping strategies and feel more confident, we can gradually transition to less frequent appointments. The goal is to create a schedule that supports your ongoing growth while respecting your individual pace and evolving needs.

  • No, we do not provide structured assessments (e.g., such as those for ADHD or autism) and we do not provide diagnoses.

We complete our own unstructured assessments in our first visit and throughout the course of therapy to understand your needs, challenges, preferences, and goals. These help us create your unique treatment plan that we’ll follow in subsequent visits. We will collaboratively refine and adjust this treatment plan together, ensuring it remains aligned with your evolving needs and goals. Should a structured assessment and/or diagnosis be important to you and your goals, we can offer resources and support to help you.

  • Yes! If you qualify for NIHB coverage, please let your clinician know so we can discuss your options.

*Note: If you also have personal insurance (e.g., through a workplace benefits plan), that coverage must be used first. Once your personal insurance is exhausted, NIHB coverage can be applied to your sessions.

Dietitian Services

  • Our first appointment is a chance to get to know each other and begin building a supportive, non-judgmental space. We’ll talk about your relationship with food, your health history, daily routines, and any goals or concerns you’d like support with.

This session is collaborative and guided by you. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. Together, we’ll begin to explore what a supportive and realistic approach to your nutrition could look like.

It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous at the start. You’re welcome to bring your favorite drink, a fidget or sensory tool, and wear whatever helps you feel most comfortable.

  • In follow-up sessions, we’ll continue building on the supportive and collaborative space established in your first visit. We may explore your experiences with food and nutrition more deeply, work through any challenges that come up, and adjust your goals as needed.

Our work together will remain flexible and tailored to your needs, pace, and preferences. We may build practical strategies, reflect on what’s been helpful or difficult, and continue shaping an approach to nutrition that feels realistic and sustainable for you.

  • We’ll tailor the frequency of our sessions to your specific needs, preferences, and goals. Many clients find it helpful to start with sessions every 2-4 weeks, as this allows time to explore and gently implement changes while still having consistent support.

As we learn what feels most helpful and sustainable for you, we can adjust the timing of our sessions, whether that means meeting more or less frequently. The goal is to create a rhythm that supports your progress while respecting your pace, lifestyle, and evolving needs.
